vintage ruffle necklace with TUTORIAL

vintage fabric necklace
remember the gorgeous vintage fabric from my Grandma i posted about on thursday? well, this is the exquisite necklace i created with a small piece of it! umm, can i say, i lOvE it? oh yeah, because i am swooning over how it turned out!

ruffle necklace
i have seen these types of ruffle necklaces all over and loved them. so i thought this was a perfect way to use my grandma's vintage threads.
vintage fabric
got to love the burnt orange! i really love the pretty design and the pink and cream accents.
i love how my grandma rolled up and tied her scraps into these cute little bundles. i think i'm going to have to do that with my scraps!
orange vintage fabric
this is the manufacturer's stamp along the selvage. anyone know when this was made? any guesses? my guess is the 70's.....

TUTORIAL

now for a quick tutorial on how i made this beauty!
chain necklace
 take a simple chain {make one or buy one!} i used a 21" chain.
cut a piece of fabric 4.5" by 13". about any type of fabric will do.
 place the chain in the middle of the fabric and fold in half {fabric will measure approx. 2.25" by 13" now}
take a thread and needle and knot it. start sewing below the chain and put the knot between the fabric layers.
hand sewing
with long stitches, hand sew across the fabric below the chain catching both layers of fabric. make sure there is a little bit of room between the chain and the seam so that you can gather the fabric.
gather fabric
then pull the thread to gather the fabric to make a ruffle. make sure the ruffle is in the center of the chain. push the ruffle as needed so that it is centered. you can also adjust how tight you want the ruffle. when it looks the way you want, tie a knot and trim the thread.
