Remember that old crib spring I had? Well here it is!
Look a little different? :)
I hung the pictures with decorated mini clothes pins and cut strips of brown burlap for the edges. I think the burlap added a nice "frame".
And I was surprised that most of you voted correctly in my sidebar poll!! Good job on guessing that I would use it as a wall hanging! I mean seriously, why didn't you vote for a witch mobile? ;)
And just in case you forgot what the crib spring looked like....
And the grand reveal of the staircase all freshly decorated:
I wanted to put family pictures in my staircase, but I didn't want to spend the money on frames (I'm rEaLly cheap!). The crib spring was given to me by a good friend and when I saw it, I knew exactly what I'd do with it!
Since there's a chance we might be moving in the spring, I didn't want to paint just to have to paint again. But the cream and white color scheme was killing me!! Someone suggested framing fabric and I loved the idea. It added color, was cheap {I had most of the fabric already}, and was easy to do. The main fabric is Robert Kaufman's "Fruit Basket" in case you were wondering.
Before.
This is on the wall straight in front of you as you are going down the stairs.
Mod Podged G {for our last name}
The mini clothes pins.
The burlap frame.
This project took a lot longer than I had planned. Maybe that's why I put it off for over 2 years! Decorating a staircase (on a dime) is tricky with the slant and having sooo much wall space to fill. Oh and let me tell you, it's not easy taking pictures of a staircase either!!
Super cute!
ReplyDeleteHow crazy creative cute. Yeah' I have a baby in a crib one more year and I can create this cuteness. Its so amazing to see all these crafty woman in blog land turn AN everyday item or need into something totally different. I look at everything as something else now. HA!
ReplyDeleteLove the vinyl saying too and from a wise, inspiring, spiritual, wonderful man as well!
ReplyDeleteCute stuff--I have seen someone else do that with the springs!! I have a staircase too....but mine has more of a break at the top area. Most of my house is so cluttered I like having one space that is not!!...but I do have a picture hanging at the bottom ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is seriously one of the CUTEST things I have ever seen since entering blog world. Job well done!!! I've been waiting to see what you did. Now I want to find a crib spring!! Love the fabric choices, too.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed that one. The crib is gorgeous and all the hoops and fabric looks so good! Amazing! I might have to come back and feature this in a few posts:)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the crib! It makes a perfect picture frame! Your stairway looks very inviting!
ReplyDeleteJane

Wow I LOVE it! What a clever reuse idea and now we're all going to want our kiddos to make the switch to big kid beds so we can do it too. Love the idea of the quote, great spot for it. I've been thinking mine stairway looked like it needed something. Might have to add one there. The fabric looks really pretty too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I love the way you used the crib spring. I'm working on my staircase next week. Why do things always take longer than you think? Thanks for sharing.

The whole thing is just too much fun! What a creative idea. I like that you didn't just put the fabric in a bunch of square or rectangular frames. What you did gives it even more personality. Great job.

Wow! I especially love the circles of material with the rectangle crib spring! I have some embroidery circles around here somewhere, I think they would look great in a little girl's room.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'd never have thought of that. I'd love it if you'd stop by my blog on Friday to leave a link on my Follow Friday Link Party. I think my readers would love it.

ReplyDeleteThat has got to be the best craft on a dime idea I've seen! And I'm so bummed I didn't see this sooner cause I just gave away my crib! UGH! Just my luck, now I'll have to keep my eye out for one. Thanks for sharing your idea!
ReplyDeleteLove it. I have had my daughters springs from her antique iron bed hanging on the wall in my craft room. It holds my inspirations. I figure it was a good thing to do with it as she inspires me everyday. I did not do anything to the frame though so maybe something like this will be good..hmmm
ReplyDeletetammy

ReplyDeleteVery Creative!! Love the burlap and the mini clothespins!!
ReplyDeleteCame over from Serenity. LOVE how you've fixed up the wall. Going on a limb here, but i think you could kick this area up a notch by stripping the railing and staining a dark walnut. Check out Living w/ Lindsey's staircase reveal. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSeriously brilliant! And I left one of these precious apparatuses (sp??) on the curbside about a month ago. UGH!!! I LOVE metal accents and this would be just the ticket!
ReplyDeleteDonna

ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! My son's crib was recalled and I saved the pieces to craft with. My hubby thought I was nuts but now I can show him this and prove that I'm not! Or, at least, that I'm in good company. ;)
