Reader's Tutorial Week is a week where i spotlight my Reader's fabulous tutorials and introduce you to fellow Craftaholics. it's tons of fun!!
Hello there dear readers, I'm Sonia of Kosmic Chai Crafts! I love to craft and re-purposing stuff..if you're a sucker for recycling projects like me, them pay my blog a visit! Grab a lemonade, 'coz there's a lot to view!
I sure squealed and screamed with delight when Linda invited me to do this tutorial on her blog, because I'm nuts about the wonderful stuff that she makes. So here I am today to show you another great repurpose (That’s right- all I think about nowadays is about junk!). Did you ever think of transforming your useless CD cases into cutest storage boxes? I did, check these out!
Now who hasn’t got empty CD Cases at home with the CDs in them long lost?? You bet we all have these around. I made these when Earth Day was around the corner, and it seemed a marvelous idea, too.
Store whatever in these cute boxes- candies, flowers, buttons, spools of threads- unlimited possibilities!
If you figure this’ll be useful for you too, then you will need the following to make these:
- Loads of empty CD cases (you’ll find lots of ‘em around, trust me!). 5 or 6 CD cases make one storage box.
- scrapbook papers of your choice
That’s all! Lets get started! Peel of the papers from inside the CD cases, so that they are transparent.
Now you’ll find this part inside the CD case which actually holds the CDs. Don’t need this anymore, do we? Pry it away from the case by inserting your fingers beneath it and pushing it outwards. (No idea why I showed this pic in gray tone).
You will now have a neat stack of CD cases.
Now take a peeled-out paper from the CD and trace its measurements onto your scrapbook paper. Cut 6 of these for one storage box.
Note that I made two different types of boxes- one single box and the other is a double stacked box. The single storey box can be made from 5-and-half CD cases (the ‘half’ part means just one side of the case which forms the lid for the box).
Insert the scrapbook pages into the CD cases. Pretty already!
Now take one CD case as the base and apply a generous coat of glue only along its four sides.
Start gluing the 4 other boxes along the 4 sides one by one, slowly and steadily.
Now, separate the two parts of the CD case and pick up the longer side. Insert the scrapbook page into it and press it on top of the box to attach it. You are done with the first box! I wrote “Happy Earth Day” on it! It stores my bangles so prettily!
Now for the second box, which has two storeys of boxes stacked one over the other. This is made the same way as the first one, with one small difference: one of the cases is kept open while gluing.
Glue the three other CD cases in the same way as described earlier. You will find that the open side on the top will act as a lid which can be flipped open and close. After the glue has dried, rotate the box so it stands such that the lid now opens to the front, instead of on the top.
Now glue over another similar box onto this one.
There you go- you have a double stacked storage box! Stores all odd tidbits, and saves on storage space too!
This is so neat. Now I need to find something to do/make with those plastic inserts that hold the cd. I have a ton of those that are clear.
