keyring wristlet with TUTORIAL

Davis and I have shared ONE car our entire marriage {5+ years....}and since we shared car keys, i have been banned from adding anything "cute" to keys. well, those days are over. we bought a 2nd car FINALLY!! yippee! and guess who officially gets her very own set of keys...yup, me. so the first thing i did was make a cute keyring wrist let to go with my stylin new ride.

i wasn't sure if i'd like something so large on my keys, but honestly, i love it. here's why:
  • easier to find my keys in my handbag {yes, i lose them in there all the time and sadly, my bag is small}
  • they stay around my wrist while i lift little man in and out of the car.
  • no more dropping my keys in the parking lot or while trying to unlock the front door.
  • when i don't take my handbag and i have no pockets, i simply wear them around my wrist.
  • it's pretty!!
here's a quick tutorial. these whip up really quick and take simple sewing.

Supplies
15" x 3" piece of heavy fabric (i used cotton canvas)
1.75" D-ring
iron
iron your fabric strip 1/4" over on the long side of the fabric.
repeat on the other long side.
then iron 1/4" over on both small ends. should look like this.
next, fold in half length wise and iron.
should look like this.
now top stitch around all sides of strip.
almost done!!
next, thread the D-ring over one side then wrap the fabric strip around overlapping the two ends about 2" from the D-ring.
sew a small rectangular box over the ends to reinforce the seam.
should look like this. you could stop here, but i had to embellish with something :)
i made a simple yo-yo flower and added a rhinestone to the center.
ta-da! how cute is that? AND so functional too.
