twice a month, i help plan and prepare an activity for young girls at my church. {we call it Activity Days} for our recent activity with the girls, we planned a Birthday Party for America. the girls really got into it!
we learned about the Declaration of Independence, sang the Star Spangled Banner {national anthem} while waving small flags, said the Pledge of Allegiance, watched a short School House Rock video clip about the founding of America {haha don't ya love School House Rock?}and then ate festive cupcakes {above} that i made. and of course, the girls wore red, white, and blue to the party. we all had a blast!!
it was one of those relaxed, fun, but educational activities that the girls enjoyed.

That sounds like you had a really great time. Adorable cuppie cakes as well! I so am trying to get into the holiday but we are in the middle of moving and it is so hard with none of our stuff in our new house yet :(
ReplyDeleteWe always have a BBQ!!! We either go camping or we go to the Sunbowl for the free 4th of July celebration and concert!! It doesn't matter what we do as long as we are together!
ReplyDeleteWe do a fun campout in my backyard with all the grandkids aka my kids and their cousins. It's fun to set up the tents and have smores and all that fun stuff! They are so excited to do it this year!
ReplyDeleteThose cupcakes look so yummy! We usually go to a 4th of July parade, and then bbq and go somewhere to watch fireworks. It is not a huge production, but it is great to spend the day with family and friends.
ReplyDeleteWe usually camp a the beach every year and do a bonfire and you can see fireworks from the pier.

ReplyDeleteEvery 4th of July we throw a huge party. We have family, neighbors, and friends come. Everyone brings their own meat to BBQ, a side or dessert to share, and a few fireworks. When each family brings a few fireworks, it then turns into a big firework show. We always have a great time!
ReplyDeletewhat a GREAT idea! I can't wait til my kids are older to totally borrow the idea! Our 4th of July traditions is normally a day out on the lake with my in-laws and then grilling out and watching/doing our own fireworks. This year we are in a new town and ready to start new traditions!
ReplyDeleteI love,love love the party you held for the girls at your church! It sure sounds like they had a ton of fun while also learning some valuable history about the country! And yes,I've ALWAYS adored The Schoolhouse Rock series! I'm 43 and still sometimes sing the songs in my head when I need a refresher course in grammar or history! It honestly works! We are going to my friend/hair stylists home for the 4th and they sure do it up big! Hope yours is amazing!

In our family, it's an absolute sin to go watch the fire works WITHOUT a giant bowl of homemade caramel corn! Every year the kids look forward to July 4th because it's one of the 2 times each year that I make it for them! (The other time is to go look at Christmas lights!)
ReplyDeleteOur favorite 4th tradition is simple: fireworks on the farm. my in-laws have a great farm just south of us and we go down each 4th for a cookout, lightning bug watching, and crackin' off some fun fireworks!

ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter was born on July 4th 1976 and it has been a tradition to have a family cookout,dinner at choice of restaurant,or whatever her choice of activity would be. Then we would watch the fireworks to top off the celebration.

ReplyDeleteI love fourth of july as it is the only time every year that we get to see fireworks! Every year after the parade and bbq, we take the kids to a secluded spot on top of a hill somewhere and see how many towns fireworks we can see at once!

We live in an area that is mostly military, so the 4th is HUGE here. I love it, because the 4th of July is my favorite holiday. Each year we go to a big park on a hill in our town, and the Syracuse symphony comes up and performs and then there is a big fireworks show. It is truly awe-inspiring to sit overlooking the town and watch the huge fireworks and listen to live patriotic music. I love it!

Our city does fireworks, music festival, carnival and parade. We are a small town, so the parade is so funny. Random people in the city dressed up, or riding in their convertible. It is charming in its simplicity. The fireworks are let off across the street from our house, so we invite friends over, and lay on the grass for an hour or so before just talking. So much fun.

ReplyDeleteWhen we lived near family we would all get together and have a big meal and then do fireworks in our driveway out in the country :) I enjoyed it growing up... We will be with my husbands family this year and I'm not sure if they have any traditions but it sure will be nice to see them after a whole year of being on the other side of the country!!
