maternity shirt refashion #2

this is round 2. i was given this shirt during my first pregnancy from a friend, but never wore it because it is very large and had no shape. i think it looks like a scrub top.....well, after a small run in with my sewing machine and a pair of scissors, this boring maternity tee was definitely not the same.
here it is on. i made it so that as the belly grows, the ruching at the bottom will bring the shirt around the belly and make it look less like a tent.
here's the neckline ruffles i added with some scraps. notice the new shape of the sleeve. aww. so much better.

here's the 5 second run down of what i did:
  • took in the sides.
  • reshaped the sleeves.
  • added ruching to the bottom.
  • added ruffles to the neckline using the scraps from taking in the sides.
Davis has a conference this weekend for work that we're all going to. i've been working hard on something special for it. i was hoping to post pics of it today, but i'm not quite done. so i'll share it next week.
have a great weekend!!

  5. Much better! I have a maternity request: I have a really cute solid colored maternity shirt from motherhood so you know it was overpriced :) It's scrunchy on the sides and is snug around the baby bump. Here's my dilemma; I got a drip of fray check right on the center of the belly! If you didn't know that stuff doesn't wash out! Any thoughts on ways to cover it??

  6. Real cute, Linda! I pass by any number of $2-$3 shirts because they look exactly like your "before". Novice question: Do you just pin the sides & sew them up, cut off the excess? Does that make it bunchy under the armpits?

  10. What an improvement. I am on my 3rd pregnancy and I am SHOCKED as to the junk I wore for my first two. I really thought maternity clothes had to be 3 sizes too big. This go around I want tailored and cute. I love this!! I am going to see what shirts I can transform as well!

    Thanks for the inspiration!
