maternity top #3: Bubble Tank

this one i did the old fashion way.....i busted out the fabric and thread and sewed this flowery Bubble Tank myself. i don't do that often. especially since i HATE patterns... with a passion. but this top came from a tutorial, not a pattern. so it was different. but of course, i had to make it my own and changed a few things.  i used Made by Rae's Spring Ruffle Top Tutorial as a starting point and then did my own thing. i shortened the length and narrowed the bands due to my petite stature {haha that was pre-pregnancy!}i also added the ruching to the bottom to avoid the "Belly Tent" look and did gathers instead of pleats. ok, so i changed quite a bit of it and you could probably never tell it came from Rae's cute little number below.
my Bubble Tank cost me about $8 to make. compare that to the $50+ price tag of maternity shops and my wallet is smiling. but isn't it cute?! there's plenty of room for the belly to grow. i love that the bubble hides the belly nicely. for now....

  1. Very cute... love that you made it your own. Can't beat $8 for a new maternity top. To be honest.. you can hardly even tell its "maternity".. the way it fits you. Love the fabric.

  4. Awesome maternity top! I had one with the same bubble effect that I wore to death during my pregnancy! And that fabric...I've had my eye on it for weeks trying to decide what I wanted to make...I'm think a new summer top or skirt is just perfect! Going fabric shopping today! Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. I'm curious, how easy is it to get this top on and off? I'm a little leery of it because it's cotton fabric with only an inch of ease and no zipper...
