5 Minute Button Rings with TUTORIAL

I work with a group of 8-11 year old girls at church. My partner and I are always looking for ways to teach the girls life skills and to have fun together. I came up with this simple button ring to teach the girls how to sew a button and then make a cute ring out of it. But honestly, I think it's pretty darn cute too! While we were home for Christmas, I scored some of my Grandma's vintage fabric {yeah, I about peed my pants when I got it! So excited to create with some yummy vintage threads}and I used little corners of it for these rings.

Here's another one I made. We are making these tonight at our activity, wish me luck! 10 girls with needles....I may be rethinking this one! lol
But you'll be so proud of me, I have the tutorial already done. Here it is!

Supplies:
  • buttons, vintage ones would be awesome!
  • elastic cord, 3 inches for each (you'll trim it later)
  • scissors
  • needle and thread
  • scraps of fabric
  • hot glue gun

Cut a small piece of fabric, just big enough to work with and bigger than your button.

 Sew on the button.
(if you need a separate tutorial on sewing a button, just let me know ;)

Here's my sewn button. Trim off the excess fabric around the button.

Wrap the elastic cord around your finger and tie a knot.

Trim the excess cord down.

Hot glue the cord ring to the back of the fabric.

*Added Later* These were a huge hit with the girls in my church group. They loved them! We had 12 girls come and it took about 30 minutes to make these as a group.
